قلعة قايتباى

                   

 بدأ السلطان الأشرف أبو النصر قايتباى بناء هذه القلعة في سنة 882هـ وانتهى من بنائها سنة 884هـ. وكان سبب اهتمامه بالأسكندرية كثرة التهديدات المباشرة لمصر من قبل الدولة العثمانية والتي هددت المنطقة العربية بأسرها.

وتأخذ هذه القلعة شكل المربع تبلغ مساحته 150م*130م يحيط به البحر من ثلاث جهات. وتحتوي هذه القلعة على الأسوار والبرج الرئيسي. وتنقسم الأسوار إلى سور داخلي وآخر خارجي. فالسور الداخلي يشمل ثكنات الجند ومخازن السلاح. أما السور الخارجي للقلعة فيضم في الجهات الأربعة أبراجا دفاعية ترتفع إلى مستوى السور باستثناء الجدار الشرقي الذي يشتمل على فتحات دفاعية للجنود.

It takes the form of the castle square with an area of 150 m * 130 m surrounded by sea on three sides. And contains the castle walls and the main tower. The walls are divided into an internal wall and external. Valsor procedure includes barracks and arms depots. The outer wall of the castle fitted in the bodies of the four defensive towers rising to the level of the wall except the eastern wall, which includes slots for defensive soldiers.
